The 26th Conference of the Parties (COP 26) of the United Nations Framework Conference on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom has started since 31 October to 11 November 2021. This event is attended by almost all of the State leaders in the world with participants around 25,000 people consist of government delegation, businessmen, journalist and activists around the world.
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) attended the conference to report Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) formulated under the dictate of imperialist power in the COP-21 Paris 2015 and assessed during the COP-25 Madrid 2019. Imperialist and their accomplishes recognized the NDCs as a voluntary commitment of each country and non legally binding.
Helda Khasmy, Chairperson of SERUNI who attending the COP-26 said, “after reporting the achievement during his administration, President Joko Widodo shamelessly asking “the promise” of countries of capitalist industry, that he called as “developed countries” to give fund and technology transfer for Indonesia to decrease global warming, addressing impact and mitigate climate change that worsen. Even though since Suharto era, we heard the term of “technology transfer” almost every day but it’s never been realized. There are so many industrial complexes made by Suharto, but there is no technology transfer. Now, the same word is still used as “amulet” by ruler of Indonesia to justify foreign loan dan investment.”
Climate change is the real threat for the world, mainly for people who fully depend on the nature and relies on the traditional agricultural system. but it is clear that oppression and exploitation by imperialist through state instruments and their corporations, with help of their accomplishes in Indonesia is the main cause. Climate change is the accountability of oppressors and exploiter. Imperialist and their accomplishes.
Indonesia is experiencing a chronic crisis in foreign relations due to its status as Semi Feudal and Semi Colony even though it is not recognized by President Jokowi's government. It is very different from the position of the imperialist countries that are members of the G-7 and even far different from the position of China and Russia. Indonesia is a “junior partner” for the imperialists. A place to ask and even beg for everything you need.
President Jokowi together with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Colombian President Ivan Duque Marquez were the speakers at the World Leader Summit on Forest and Land Use (FLU) meeting, 2 November 2021 at the Scottish Event Campus, Glasgow, specifically discussing the issue of "Forestry and Land Use". President Jokowi promotes the Social Forestry program as a sustainable development that combines environmental, social and economic aspects. Indonesia and the UK signed a cooperation agreement including support for Social Forestry as the main goal of the Forest, Agriculture, and Commodity Trade (FACT) Dialogue as well as a solution for the global climate. The Social Forestry is clearly not a new program. It is a package of imperialist policies so that Indonesia can immediately operate Forest Management Units (KPH) which is forced imperialists through the European Union and the World Bank so that Indonesia's forests are free for investment and other business interests.
Helda responded, “This is a false solution for the Indonesian people and the world's climate. Social Forestry and similar programs facilitate massive investment from imperialist countries to exploit the peasantry based on monopoly of forest, where 34% of Indonesia's villages are located. The peasants and women have almost lost everything because of the imperialist program and its accomplices in Indonesia under the guise of climate solutions and sustainable development. The people demand a system change, not a program that worsens the climate and people's lives. This system change can only be built based on the winning of genuine land reform that guarantees justice for the people, nature and the world's climate.” concluded Helda who is also the Chairperson of the ILPS Indonesia.
